I know it's been unbelievably long time since I've blogged. While I am going to apologize (Sorry!), I'm no longer going to promise to post frequently because then all I'll ever be doing when I post is apologize. Clearly I deserve a...

That's right a sNack in the face, not smack 0;) Introducing artisan created bakery products infused with pharmaceutical-grade caffeine / brownies / cookies / candies / and more. I haven't tried them myself, but when I learned about these caffeine infused treats, not to mention their awesome name... Well I had to share!

Across from my new office (which clearly keeps me busy busy busy!) is a coffee shop called Dark Horse, and on days I want to indulge I treat myself with a chocolate-caramel topped with sea salt brownie... Chocolate naturally has caffeine, I'm just thinking these babies "made just the way your grandma used to do it, only injected with 200 milligrams of pharmaceutical-grade caffeine" could come in quite handy for those rare all nighters, such as the upcoming annual Toronto Nuit Blanche because let's face it, I'm not a young whippersnapper any longer. Supposedly, if you you ask nicely, maybe they’ll slip you 225!

I know, I know this post is beyond overdue. Please forgive me. In my defense it's not for a lack of trying. In fact, part of me thought during my lil getaway how lucky I felt to post daily, for I knew come the start of my new gig it would be more difficult to find the time.

Alas I was right! Just one week into my job, and I've already put in a bit of overtime. Then again, I'm also enjoying the pleasure of two four-day weeks in a row courtesy of Victoria Day, so I mustn't complain!

So I was going to post one final clue but in an effort not to be disowned by any of my dear friends.... Just a few more pics, the winner revealed below, and in lieu of Clue#11, a bonus chance to win a photo-souvenir by yours truly... a print from my trip!

Instead my Friday-Saturday Wanderlust Partner-in-Crime picked up some jelly-bellies, besides:

On our drive back a minor thunder and lightening storm made for some interesting experimental photography:

An angel hair pasta dinner with red wine and freshly home-baked bread coupled with a Nancy Meyer's film later, and we were done.

Yet, my lil getaway did not end there...

And we were off to the beach:

It was a short stop, but a mere chance to wet my toes:

The only thing that made me sad was that I would soon have to go home... But I didn't mind since it was in style and directly in to downtown Toronto!

Still haven't guessed where I was? Well, Colleen guessed it! And she thought she hadn't! Congrats Colleen... I'm sending you, drum roll please...

"A [vintage] Flair Tea Strainer / Drip Caddy"

I couldn't think of a more apropos souvenir from New England than an antique of some kind While it may not be worth much monetary-wise... It is from an authentic gorgeous Connecticut home filled with antiques of someone close to my heart! In fact, the 18-9 Stainless Steel Hong Kong Made (functional) tea strainer was actually given to me as part of a pair! So not only will you and I have matching tea strainers, but it's got a story behind it. A many thanks to her son and daughter-in-law for the strainers et al ;)

So now that y'all know what state I was in. Can you guess which towns I visited? If not their counties? First person to name one of the two towns I spent the majority of my time in the week I was away, shall receive one of my photos. Hopefully it's a worthwhile prize 0;)

OM BONUS GIVEAWAY CLUE: Where in the world was tee? Clue #10: The Compliment.

So this past week, there were so many amazing OM: One Moments... Truth be told, at first I wanted to just blog off the whole week as my single OM. Then this happened...

A couple days into my self-designed relaxation rejuvenating retreat, complete with rediscovering my love for photography, I received such an awesome unexpected compliment!

See, I attended a daily class every morning Tuesday to Friday last week. If you haven't yet guessed what type of classes, you may want to check out the last couple clues, as I'm hoping it's become obvious. After each class I'd roam in and out of the barn, the grounds and neighbouring spa to take pictures of anything and everything that took my eyes' fancy.

Turns out one of my instructors was quite impressed and emailed me with the subject line "Bring camera?" This is what it said...

Hey there, thinking of you.

Wondering if you might be interested in taking a few pictures in the spa tomorrow? If so, after class, come over to the spa and speak with Jodi. We just need a few architectural shots of the rooms, to send to our owner.

We can comp your class tomorrow too.

Would just need to email pics to Sarah tomorrow sometime.

I hadn't even realized she'd seen any of my photos, until I remembered mentioning my lil where in the world am I game with my dear friends. Turns out Kristen had checked my blog out, and was impressed!

And here I thought I was just being annoying amateur paparazzi with my camera. In fact, frankly, I hadn't really picked up my darling D80 in quite sometime... I'd taken a LOT of photos during my much longer sojourn in France as an au pair.

Turns out all I needed was a little break, and once the inspiration came trickling it soon became a full on rapid and plentiful stream... Who knew? I'm certainly not a pro, I leave that to my amazingly talented photographer friends. You know who you are ;) However, I most certainly was flattered to be asked for copies of my pics... So here is what I ended up emailing Sarah...

A couple you've seen already...

Plus shots inside "the barn." The second a happy-accident silhouette shot of the lovely Kristen, my instructor for my first two classes...

Honestly, sadly, I didn't get a chance to capture the entire spa, my favourite room to be exact which was the room that made me feel like a Beautiful Warrior 75 minutes later. Then again, I think no picture's required to remember how amazing that spa treatment was! Thank you again Eileen :)

I know, I know what you're thinking how do these shots possibly help me? I could have been at any one of a zillion spa getaways last week... But trust me only one was as charyming as this one ;) In fact, a special thank you to everyone, Kristin, Maureen, Vicki, Jodi, Amber, Sarah and co. for all being so delightful!

So some of you know, but perhaps many of you don't know that many things inspired this lil' petit sojourn or relaxation and re-energizing....

One of the major ones being, a lil' bit of exciting news concerning lil miss tee and an exciting new opportunity managing marketing 'n communications involving a lil' architectural studio with BIG talent. That's right folks, today I start a new job!

GIVEAWAY: Where in the world is tee? Lucky Clue#7

It seemed only appropriate to include the photo above of lucky 7 of from last night's restaurant. Love this clever idea for table markers! Had I not been such a little miss piggy tee last night, I likely would have also managed to capture a shot of my pizza Margherita, complete with Mozzarella di Bufala... Mmm!

Fear not, today I capture a many photos that will hopefully reveal more of at least what I've been up to and where (interior wise) these past two days.

Now onto the pics...

Photo 1: Above, a detail shot of one of my purchases (to support the local economy of course!), and use as my daily "uniform" this week.

Photo 2: Above, post "morning routine." I was thankful that today we had lil baby bowls to place the soothing oils. Yesterday I accidentally poured a bit too much in my hand... Oops! Pas probleme, my feet didn't mind, they benefited!

Photo 3: Above, one of my favourite corners of the "barn."

Okay, so the next few shots I blame (or credit? You be the judge!) on my years of marketing architecture/design firms for being drawn to photograph such thoughtful design details.

Today's "morning routine" was followed by the "beautiful bliss" I mentioned yesterday:

Photo 7: Above, the shot of the identical chair across from me as I was pampered in style by the kind and oh so accommodating A.

Photo 8: Above, the fresh milk, honey and cardamom bath my feet got to taste.

Did I mention my feet and legs savoured on a dark brown sugar, clove and honey dessert that followed, plus a post-clay treatment, wrapped like mummies in steamy hot towels (while my eyes were treated to a heated herbal pillow no less) before my pedicure?

Originally unsure if I'd indulge in a manicure complete with a massage with Ayurvedic oils too.... A little voice inside of me screamed, "Go on, spoil yourself, just this once..." Could it have been you, luckypenny, telepathically? ;)

Photo 9: Above, a playful shot of the end result of my super soft left hand. It's not easy taking pampered photos of yourself! Less dramatic than the Japanese Rose, I loved the subtle sweet and shimmery shade of pink Sugar Daddy looked on my fingers tips.

One final thought, as I lay soaking in a hot lavender-infused French kiss bath tonight, I wondered, can one over-pamper oneself? With my mini getaway approaching it's second-half mark I say "Absolutely not!" 0;D

GIVEAWAY: Where in the world is tee? Clue#6

Clue #6 consists of multiple photographs, nine to be exact, by yours truly...

Photo 1: Above, items specially awaiting me in the salle de bain where I'm staying. At first I didn't think I was a fan of the shampoo and conditioner, except for their mint awakening qualities, yet I must admit afterwards my hair never felt so soft when left to air-dry before.

As you may recall from Clue #1 when I first announced the Where in the world is tee? GIVEAWAY I posted a photograph. What I didn't mention, but you likely guessed, is it's an entrance way. A shot lovingly borrowed, like Clue#2 (first image) and Clue #4, from the website of where I am spending most of my days. Photo 2: Above is my Clue #1 shot.

I was so pleased, yet not that entirely surprised to discover that it in fact looks exactly as their website appears, if not even more tranquil.

Photo 3: Above is a shot of the "rear" of the same building.

Photos 4 and 5: Above, shots of the surrounding property. The first, my view as I lay outside in the sun, eyes closed for the most part, iPod playing a special mix from Sweet Pea Sis for my getaway, appreciating the present. The second, a chair I caught shyly smiling at me. Perhaps tomorrow I'll take seat with him.

Photo 6: Above, tea kindly served to me as I contemplated what indulgences I would surrender to tomorrow and the rest of the week.

Photo 7: Above, the gorgeous wood floor of the shop I stumbled upon, where I think I may purchase the pasalubong prize! I know, I know, it's only a shot of the floor... But isn't it a colourful one?

Photo 8: Above, my lunch. After the relatively early and active morning I had (in comparison to my usual freelance schedule), I did my best to keep healthy. Gargonzola cheese is healthy right? ;)

Photo 9: Above, finally, of course, had to stop and smell flowers after lunch :)

While I don't mind if tomorrow takes its time in coming... I very much look forward to a more "gentle" yet still early start to the day, followed by "beautiful "bliss."

Speaking of journeys, made a friend along the second leg of my trip, a fellow traveler named George from Windsor, UK. I told him about my blog and asked if I could capture a memento for all of you... He said yes, and promised not to reveal where we met. Here's hoping he keeps his promise ;)

I love this shot. I cropped and adjusted the contrast a bit. Nope I didn't take it. Along with yesterday's Clue#1, it's lovingly loaned from one of the major places of my destination. And yes, if you haven't guessed it, I am planning on seriously pampering myself throughout my weeklong getaway!

So with Clue#2 out of the way, onto this week's OM, also pampering and beautifying related! I am thrilled to introduce local esthetician maggie of maggie&co, and share the background story on how I met her...

Sunny Tuesday afternoon, Big Brother G was at his new favorite caffeine-equipped joint/office: the Linux Caffe here in Toronto, and encouraged über-tall little brother and I to come say hello. He offered to treat us to frozen yogurt. How could we refuse?

A couple lemon frozen yogurts later, G went to Spanish class, and über-tall lil bro and I stuck around inside to warm up with some chai tea. Nothing like tasty contrasts, right?

By now, you're wondering where does maggie fall into this story? Well as it happens... Now! For the moment I sat down on the perfect people watching bar stool, and not more than two inches from where I placed my cuppa chai tea I stumbled upon this...

As you can guess, I took the card read it and placed it in my purse. A couple days later I serendipitously remembered to call maggie when I was in need of some beautifying for a special someone's big 3-0 extravaganza tonight! Happy Birthday Cee ;)

Not only was maggie super friendly and professional, her home set-up truly is a hidden gem.

Located on an assuming corner a couple blocks north of Little Italy's College Street, I couldn't help but grin when she explained why local celebs are regulars... The privacy! Truth be told, although it was a short appointment, she made me feel like a starlet all my own. A seasoned Stillwater Spa alumna, she knew exactly how I wanted my brows done before I said a peep... Natural and tee for tidy of course.

I have no pics of maggie&co. After all, we starlets need our privacy ;) However, if like me, you love supporting local small business owners with charm and would adore a free facial, drop me a line. I'll happily email you her digits.

I love how this One Moment of joining my brothers for frozen yogurt, resulted in another great One Moment of meeting maggie.

I must admit once I finally decided where I was going I got pretty excited, and am secretly enjoying the fact that I'm not telling a soul. Except perhaps my travel agents ;) Who thankfully also happen to be my aunt and uncle, so I've got my emergency contact covered too!

So where in the world am I going you wonder? Well, I'm not revealing that easily, but I am providing visual clues beginning with the one above. Click on the image for a larger view :D

In fact, I consulted über-tall lil bro, and I've decided I should incorporate this into my first ever little giveaway. Truth be told, post-ecojotting days, I didn't think I could afford to host one. Then I figured, why not? While I can't promise the prize to be of an enormous monetary value, I promise it to be as we Filipinos call a pasalubong.

Where in the world is tee [going]?

Perhaps instead of a Magic 8 ball I need one of those old school globes that spin...

What am I trying to decide you ask? Well in case you haven't caught any of my random, somewhat cryptic Facebook statuses or tweets... I am trying to decide where to go next week within a $1000 budget on a last minute getaway. Nope, rest assured I am not running from the law ;) I guess you could simply say a golden opportunity to take a little vacay has presented itself, and I wish to cease it!

So my first instinct, is to meet up with Michigan-to-Argentina Motorcycling Brother in El Salvador. Cost of airfare $746. Leaving me about $30 a day to live on.

Second, somewhat preferred option because the major purpose of the trip is to relax, is Cuba, Mexico or the like. Ideally with close girlfriend, good book, camera and tons of gossip over drinks.

Problem with preferred plan b is close girlfriends have to work or study. Why oh why is it always no money, lots of time, or the reverse some money, no time?

My last rant is... What's with the single discrimination? All the deals out there are double occupancy required. Where does that leave us hot single ladies who heart traveling?

Truth is. I shouldn't complain. I've done a lot of traveling, especially in the past two years from Europe to India (with people and solo). In fact I have a many couches to surf from San Fran, Vancouver, the Rockies, Chicago, NYC, Paris, Amsterdam to PEI. So I'm officially ceasing the whining and promise you this... I will pick a destination soon, and leave you to guess with the pics I post where oh where tee has ended up! Perhaps not quite Carmen Sandiego-style...

*Sigh* if only my budget were unlimited!

This week's One Moment (a.k.a. great online meet up started by À la mode Stuff) is of the simple, we, well I, definitely, take for granted variety... Appreciating the phone.

From Sunday to today, I called and received a many phone calls. Thank goodness for a nearly unlimited mobile phone plan! Of course, it's when I forget my mobile at home and am therefore kicking myself for being forgetful, that I realize how much I count on it, and being with me! This week, I appreciate it: period.

To My Dear Nokia 6301,

How I heart you. I've dropped you, misplaced you, scuffed you up, and handled you with sticky hands while I'm devouring gooey and delicious frozen yogurt. Yet still, always, you stay by my side. Not to mention, while your screen is not as fancy and touch sensitive as the iPhone or functional as the crackberry, you still provide easy access to mobile web. You wake me up each morning, and even allow me to capture special moments when forgetful me has left my digicam at home.

Your battery may not last forever, and occasionally calls are a bit static-y, yet through it all you're there for me. And this week, you
Were my timepiece getting me to networking events and informational interviews on time;
Delivered great news from recent job interviews;
Helped me coordinate with a girlfriend who I was assisting move;
Entertained me with gossip;
Helped me strategize and do business;
Comforted a friend;
Made weekend plans;
And tonight, you allowed me to hear from a good friend I hadn't chatted with in a really long time, who called out of the blue as she sat at Pearson's Airport in limbo between Prince Edward Island and Vancouver.

Warning: This is not for the faint at heart. A Mac OS X application. SELFCONTROL blocks access to incoming and/or outgoing mail servers and websites for a predetermined period of time and can't, I repeat can't be undone.

As Steve explains, "For example, you could block access to your email, facebook, and twitter for 90 minutes, but still have access to the rest of the web. Once started, it can not be undone by the application, by deleting the application, or by restarting the computer – you must wait for the timer to run out."

I shall test it out tomorrow, when I should be finishing a project and not procrastinating on my favourite guilty pleasure sites: YouTube. Only google and my internet provider will ever know how many hours I've wasted, ummm, I mean have done research there ;)

My 'One Moment' of last week: Sibling Reminiscing.

Preface: You're probably wondering who the cuties are down below... Well up at the top is lil' sweet pea sis. The guy with the mustache in the Pampers box is my Michigan-to-Argentina motorcycling brother. And the third photo? Well that would me along with über-taller little brother and big brother G.

Know the song Sunscreen - Everybody's Free performed by Baz Luhrmann? Well there's this line:

"Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future."

And it's so true. Not to mention I feel so fortunate to have four links to my past and reinforcements in the future!

The thing is we five siblings are scattered across the globe. Yes, currently my Michigan-to-Argentina motorcycling brother is doing just that. In fact, he just wrapped up some volunteer work in Guatemala :) As you may know sweet pea lil sis is in Michigan. And über-tall little brother, well he just arrived in Toronto from the Philippines, and it's been nearly two years since G and I have seen him!

Excited therefore we were! So when one of us began unexpectedly recalling our oldest childhood memories over dinner one night, we just couldn't stop. After all we all had such great childhoods... You know, tattle-tales, fights (of the water and screaming variety) and all. Cue cheesy music and tearful thank you to mom and dad here. Yet, seriously that moment was definitely worth taking in and appreciating, hence... My One Moment of last week: Sibling Reminiscing.

While all five of us weren't together to remember:

the lemonade stands turned lemonade franchises (we were entrepreneurs even back then);

the make-believe games complete with make-believe Monopoly money customized with our faces on it (courtesy of mom's photocopier);

and the grocery store trips that ended with two overflowing grocery carts and I don't know how many bags of milk (dad contemplated buying a jersey for the backyard);

To name a few... I certainly can't wait wait for the day when we are crying from laughing to hard at all our wonderful, memorable (mostly silly!) childhood stories!

I was delighted to come across my first ever online meet up courtesy of À la mode Stuff via CandiedFabrics, especially because I am currently in a mindfulness meditation class that promotes taking things in "moment by moment."

This week's moment? Odile Chocolat. [Odile: pronounced oh-dee]

I've lived in my new 'hood now for over two months. Each time I'm on Dundas Street West, I've walked by a bright turquoise painted-brick boutique, telling myself I will pop in the next time to check it out. You know how that goes... Well on Wednesday, I finally did! And I was welcomed by Odile herself, a lovely French chocolatier clearly passionate about her trade. Not only did she tell me about her chocolates during my brief visit, but she insisted I have a taste!

How wise she was, for there's nothing like a sample to whet one's appetite for more... Yesterday, I returned, although this time not for me but for LeanandLuxe. After all, big brother G and I had to give her something worthy of her gourmet palette. Inspired by the meet up, and in an effort to fully enjoy the moment I asked Odile permission to photograph my visit and she happily obliged.

I ended up picking:

The Chai Massala (the one I'd tried and adored);
Romance: Champagne, black pepper, and rose petals (because everyone needs a bit of bubbly, spice and flowers on their birthday);
Raspberry Vinegar (a best-seller); and
Mushroom (wild Canadian black trumpet).

All hand-made...

Odile Chocolat: small simple pleasures one will want to enjoy slowly, appreciating the unique flavours fused with 54 percent Callebaut Belgium chocolate.

Taking the moment to blog about this has reminded me how much I love to connect with local retailers, and pick out the perfect gift for a friend. Can't wait to write a about a special moment next week!

With Earth Day less than two weeks away, I've been wondering what I'm going to do. Last year I held a rolling giveaway as Ecojotter. It was so much fun reading everyone's daily eco-deeds as we counted down Mother Earth's special day together! This year in addition to continuing my eco-acts before and after April 22nd, I'm thinking of catching a screening of DisneyNature's "Oceans" (trailer below).

There's nothing like viewing spectacular footage of our breathtakingly beautiful planet. I am particularly keen on seeing it, since I missed out on "Earth" on the big screen, plus I'm hoping they'll feature the world's largest fish: the whale shark.

Two years ago, at the end of January, I surprised my family with a visit to the Philippines. My one request was for Big Brother G and I to take a mini-backpacking adventure during my suprise sojourn. So off we went with Jack, a fellow wanderlust friend G met while crossing the Lao border. A 12-hour overnight non-air conditioned (thank goodness for cool nights) later, we caught a connecting van in Legaspi to Donsol, in the Province of Sorsogon. Not before a quick shot of Mayon Volcano, considered to be the world's most perfectly formed volcano for its near perfect symmertical cone shape, and the Philippine's most active one.

After securing an affordable cabana on the beach, grabbing some native cuisine, and meeting some locals, we admired the cloudless night and bright stars, before an early morning to seek whale sharks. We met a lovely German couple we'd end up sharing a "banca" (boat) with. To this day I only regret we forgot to exchange email addresses with... They had an underwater camera!

It was a long hot day, chartering the banca in search of whale sharks. One false alarm jump in to the water, found me panicking that I couldn't swim. Lesson learned: the quickest way to drown is to panic. Thankfully it turned out that my freak-out was a blessing in disguise. The crew from then on paid special close attention to me ;D

At our second sighting a crew-member grabbed my arm upon jumping in to the cool refreshing ocean, and guided me above the most enormous creature I'd ever seen! Nearly the size of a mini-bus, it was spectacular!

This Earth Day, I will be remembering these magnificant creatures. I will recall how we learned that a small fishing community formerly known for hunting these gentle massive fish, managed to convince the hunters to seek and protect their former prey instead. The very same hunters, skilled at finding whale sharks, now take visitors on ocean adventures of a lifetime, while educating them on the sanctity of their eco-system.

How eco-cool and inspiring is that? Proof that bad eco-habits can change for the better.

Coming across this photo seemed very apropos since I got my first traffic ticket last week :( I was so proud of having never gotten one (unless you count the time I mis-parked my Big Brother G's beloved red Saab and it was towed). Sorry again G 0:)

Now I find myself wondering whether I should appear in court and argue, or just pay the fine and risk higher insurance. If only I didn't have to travel so far to fight the ticket! What would you do?

Perhaps I should stick to biking...

My first ever Passover Seder.

So post-mini-Michigan-getaway Sweet Pea Sister came back with us to Toronto for a week-long visit. I have therefore been unintentionally kept away from Blogger, and have instead been gallivanting/showing off my new 'hood and covering my face with guck... a.k.a. spending quality time with my sis. To make it up to you, a photo of our gucky faces...

Hopefully, we haven't traumatized you 0;D Can you tell we're sisters?

Now for the promised photos of my first ever Passover Seder courtesy of the loveliest host family a high-school exchange student could have, Sweet Pea Sister's host family...

A few of the things I learned about Passover Seder:

1) It's the best holiday to be new to because it's all about asking questions...

2) Four questions asking why this night is different from all other nights to be exact:

"Why is it that on all other nights during the year we eat either bread or matzoh, but on this night we eat only matzoh?"

"Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of herbs, but on this night we eat only bitter herbs?"

"Why is it that on all other nights we do not dip our herbs even once, but on this night we dip them twice?" and

"Why is it that on all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but on this night we eat in a reclining position?"

3) Along with four questions, we have four glasses of wine (mmm!)

4) Afikoman (Hebrew language: אפיקומן, based on Greek, epikomen or epikomion [επί Κομός], meaning "that which comes after" or "dessert") is a half-piece of matzo which is broken in the early stages of the Passover Seder and set aside (or in our case hidden) to be eaten as a dessert after the meal. Everyone at the table who doesn't yet have children searches for the hidden Akikoman and whoever finds it wins a prize!

After the consumption of the Afikoman, traditionally, no other food may be eaten for the rest of the night. Additionally, no intoxicating beverages may be consumed, with the exception of the remaining two cups of wine.

Now am off to a Good Friday Procession with big brother G and Sweet Pea Sister in my new 'hood... The weather (25C!) couldn't be more perfect out!

Motoring through Motown snapping photographs.

As mentioned my big brother G and I went on a mini road trip to Michigan this weekend. We came to visit our lil Sweet Pea sister and her host family. (She's on a year long high-school exchange). May I just say Sweet Pea sis has one of the most loveliest host families on earth? In fact, her host dad Greg took us on a little tour of Detroit.

Here a few photos from our 3-hour journey through "Motown." Turns out the "post-apocalyptic" American city still has some hidden gems and glitters of new inspiration...

From Bloomfield Township, driving south on Woodward Avenue (the first mile of paved road in the world!) catching a glimpse of a Frank Lloyd Wright original, popping our heads in to the magnificent interiors of Fisher Theatre and the Guardian Building, walking through The Conservatory on Belle Isle, to walking around the whimsical open-air art world of found objects (including abandoned homes) known as The Hidelberg Project by artist Tyree Guyton... It was an absolutely delightful afternoon! Thanks again Greg :)

Tomorrow I'm going on a mini road trip with my big brother G to Michigan. I heart road trips big and small. We're renting a car. By the way, if you ever want to drive across to the US (and likely vice versa) and need a rental, I highly recommend Budget Rent A Car. Not only was Budget the most affordable, compared to Dollar and Thrifty their unlimited mileage feature was actually unlimited. The other rentals were only unlimited within your province (boo!) But as usual I digress...

It just so happens I came across this nifty new way to travel called Rotel. As DVICE puts it, "What else would you call a rolling hotel?" Germany-based Rotel Tours lets tourist travel to fabulous locations by combining tour bus and hotel into one rolling vacation.

The bright red custom-modified Mercedes hotel-on-wheels has 24 seats and 26 capsule-sized sleeping areas for trip participants (the two extra beds are for driver and tour guide of course!) Also equipped with a small kitchen and toilet, however Rotels lack a shower. Ewww, that could get a bit stinky! Thankfully the tour company says they try to stay at campgrounds with shower facilities as often as possible.

Interestingly, while I call this form of travel new, Rotel has been doing this for years. They have 3,400 beds rolling all over the world from the Serengeti to the heights of Patagonia!

Perhaps if I learn German or they add an English or French function to their website, I'll try 'em out sometime. I like think they'd be more affordable than a cruise and way more comfortable than Greyhound!

Earth Hour is but a day away! What to do?

Well while I will actually be out of town visiting family and friends, (rest assured we will be sitting in the dark enjoying each other's company on Saturday, March 27th at 8:30pm doing something)... What I'd like be doing is as It All Starts With Butter suggests: Earth Hour Fondue Dinner by Candlelight.

According to the fabulous foodie advice of It All Starts With Butter, fondue is broken into 3 courses: cheese, traditional and chocolate.

For cheese, I love his suggestion of rubbing the pot with a clove of garlic before melting the cheese for a little added flavour. I told you it was delectably brilliant! Not to mention easy and affordable, according to It All Starts With Butter, if I'd prefer not to grate the cheese myself, I can pick up packaged fondue cheese for about $8 for a pack that serves 4!

It all started last night... Not sure if I just devoured my dinner too quickly, or 'twas jittery nerves as I await important emails from job prospects and cute boys, but I had a tummy ache :(

The solution: Homemade Ginger Tea. Conveniently I had a whole bunch of ginger root just sitting around from my poule au pot au feu...

Here's what I did...

I brought about 4 cups (1L) of water to a boil in a saucepan.
Took about a 2-inch chunk of ginger root, peeled it and cut into thin slices . By the way do you know the trick to peeling ginger? Gently rubbing the skin off with a teaspoon. Works like a charm!
Add ginger slices to boiling water, cover and let simmer on low for 15-20 minutes. (I also added a tablespoon of turbinado sugar a.k.a. raw sugar at this step, since I didn't have honey to sweeten at completion.)
You can strain the tea, or if you're impatient like me ladle the the tea into your favourite mug and squeeze in fresh lemon to taste.
Enjoy ;)

As I'm so accustomed to writing about all things eco from my ecojotting days, I can't help but be delighted to begin with this week's cuppa green tee from beautiful Barcelona...

I'll never forget the first time I visited the second largest city in Spain along the Mediterranean coast... Probably because it's the only time I've ever visited. For now that is ;) The warm welcoming air (even in mid-October); the decadent Churros y Chocolate (yum, perfect with a cuppa tee); then of course there's the design: the fashion, the streets (graffiti and all), the architecture: new and old, and even the fresh markets screamed vibrant colourful art!

So what goes better with design, other than innovation? Reminiscent of my ecojotter post "sensored, times and on call... lights!" this brilliant idea makes one think of all the electricity that's wasted by city lights that stay on when no one needs them.

So right up there with food, is a love for movies... Even better is watching a great flick with some freshly popped popcorn, but I digress 0;)

I've seen so many films in my lifetime, that sometimes they begin do blur. Happen to you? I recall countless times my Uncle M and I trying to remember the name of a film, that actor, that scene, that line... And while the Internet Movie Database a.k.a. IMDB has come in handy, what if you had access to an exhaustive video library of the most memorable movie moments?

I just tested it out myself, and I'm not sure if it's because tons of people are testing it out this very moment, but my only complaint is response times seem to on the slow side. The website also appears to include the following disclaimer:

Enter: Ingendesign's Flow light, a bamboo-made, self-sustaining public lighting solution which operates on the principle of vertical wind turbines. Thanks to its sexy spiral form, the lamp can capture wind from any direction.

"Each of the blades’ tips have been incised angularly in order to project light downwards to passerbys and so that the motion can be seen at a distance. With light sources positioned at the ends of each of the wind blades, depending on the force of the wind, the play of light is abundant, ranging from continuous lighting to more deliberate waving movements."

Simple in it's design and construction, the Flow light is made from eco-cheap (locally accessible) bamboo and recyclable electronics: LEDs, wires and dynamo.

Nifty, right?

(Belated) Happy Pi Day!

My dear sweet pea sister, who herself is awaiting college admission results, told me yesterday that MIT has a tradition of making admissions results available on 3. 1 4 1 5 9...

Recognize the number? It's π (Pi), as in MIT reveals who's in on March 14th at 1:59pm, also known as Pi Day. By the way, it turns out Albert Einsten's birthday also falls on March 14th. Go figure! Leave it to the world re-known institute of technology to be that geeky!

Remember π? A mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any circle's circumference to its diameter in Euclidean space?

I must admit, I don't recall the last time I used π... I do however recall the last time I ate pie! It was moving day, when I thanked my friends for helping me move (yet again) with pizza, beer and blueberry praline pie from none other than my fav Madeleine's Cherry Pie and Ice Cream... Mmm, yum!

And so in honour of π and the yummy variety... An awesome one minute apple pie video, also courtesy of my sweet pea sis.

Inside Out Bubbly

Just a quick post, since there is no other bubbly drink I love more, nor makes the best aperitif, than champagne! Mmm Veuve! How about drinking it inside out?

Introducing quite literally the InsideOut Champagne Flute...

Simply put, it's an inverted champagne flute. Bonus is, not only do they look classy but since your hands aren't in close contact to the champagne like a regular flute, the precious bubbly stakes cooler longer! What's more, they're on sale right now: $30 for a set of 4, compared to a regular priced $60.

Turns out Charles & Marie carry InsideOut almost everything: shot glasses, liquor glasses and mmm martini glasses! While the other glasses look sharp, I must admit I still prefer the champagne flutes, but that's just me ;)

Since iPhones aren't yet impermeable, enter... Waterpebble!

Is it just me or are there devices for everything?

I recently found out there's an iPhone app that "analyzes your sleep patterns and wakes you when you are in the lightest sleep phase" thereby making "you feel rested and relaxed." My geeky big brother insists it works. Sorry G, that's what you get for not reading my blog ; p

Apps such as "Sleep Cycle" are what have me convinced that if iPhones were waterproof (like the the digital camera pictured to the right) then there two would be an app tracking your water usage when you showered. However, since iPhones aren't yet impermeable, enter... Waterpebble, this week's cuppa green tee...

Discovered via DVice... "The clever [little] device by designer Paul Priestman, monitors water going down the plug hole when you shower. Memorising your first shower and using it as a benchmark, Waterpebble then indicates, via a series of 'traffic lights' flashing green through to red, when to finish showering." The best part, their site claims, "each time you shower Waterpebble automatically fractionally reduces your shower time, helping you save water without needing to think about it."

At £3.19 each, the jury is still out on how usefully green Waterpebble is. In fact, I couldn't help notice this cheeky comment...

Then again, depending on the type of shower (aren't the ones that feel like waterfalls annoyingly the best?) a five-minute shower could be too long! Therefore until I get to test it out myself, all I will say, is kudos on design dedicated to saving our precious water! At the very least I think this invention deserves a cuppa green tee nod :)

The power of poulet.

Montreal was amazing. Coming back with a terrible bout of the cold/flu not so much.

That's right, that's why I've been MIA. Rarely am I so sick that I don't even manage to turn the laptop on =/

Thankfully lots of sleep (18 hours alone on Monday!) plus home-cooked chicken soup did the trick in telling those pesky cold/flu germs they weren't welcome!

Many times had I heard that chicken soup was not only good for the soul, but the ultimate cold/flu-buster! Craving something comforting, I managed to go pick up the necessary ingredients to make chicken soup French-style poule au pot au feu which I'd learned to cook during my au-pair days. Here is cooking tee-syle:

1 - 6L pressure cooker filled with:

a whole fresh chicken
a large onion chopped in quarters
a couple large carrots chopped in chunks
a couple stalks of celery
some small red potatoes chopped in quarters
some cabbage (what i could fit in the pot)
some English leeks (again what i could fit in the pot)
a good chunk of ginger thinly sliced
half a head of garlic (i peeled the cloves and crushed them slightly ever so gently)
a couple bay leaves
a small bunch of fresh thyme
some black pepper corn
a cuppa chicken broth

water filled to just over 2/3.

Seasoned to taste after cooking with Fleur de Sel (de La Boutique de Pont-Aven)... A treasured little bottle from my time in France)!

Since I don't use my pressure cooker that frequently, I googled cook time, which thankfully is a mere 12 minutes once pressurized.

While I dream of one day owning a bright coloured enameled cast-iron casserole a.k.a Le Creuset, I gotta admit I absolutely heart my pressure cooker from my Auntie A and Uncle M. It makes waiting when you're sick and hungry unnecessary, and so much better than opening a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup!

Note: Recipe will work sans pressure cooker, and a bit more patience ;)

I am willing to be the first to admit, I am a bit of a geek. Maybe even a full-fledged one ;) In fact, I love technology as much as I love bright beautiful colourful things. Needless to say that when a friend posted Multicolr Search Lab of Idée Inc. on Facebook I got super excited! (Thanks Andrew!)

What's this misspelled Multicolr Search Lab, you ask? Simple it's a web-based app that has "extracted the colours from 10 million of the most 'interesting' Creative Commons images on Flickr" paired it with "visual similarity technology" to allow us to navigate the collection by colour!

Speaking Greek to you? I highly recommend just checking it out for yourself... If you're like me, you'll easily find yourself clicking to your heart's content before you realize you've skipped lunch! Speaking of lunch...

Am off to brisk Montreal this afternoon for the weekend... This shall only be my second time to the beautiful French-Canadian city... Can't wait! Poutine, profitéroles, practicing mon français, and partying up my Auntie M's big 4-0, here I come!

3) Play a game: Yes, RockBand is super fun to play on a date – but what about that power and creativity that lies in charades? Or Apples-to-Apples? Or even just some good ol’ fashioned competitive WAR? You’ll be skipping those extra watts to power your projector and getting back to the basics: getting to know someone.
